I see a lot of people leaving corporate data-mining platforms like Facebook and X. That’s awesome! But I’ve noticed many are heading over to Blue Sky. I don’t mean to be a downer, but let’s think about it—why invest your time and energy in another for-profit platform that’ll mine your data, control your feed, and eventually decide what’s acceptable and what isn’t? Sound familiar?

Meanwhile, we’ve got Elon Musk throwing up Nazi salutes and Zuckerberg going full anti-woke by ditching moderation on Meta. These tech bros don’t care about your community, your safety, or your values—they care about their bottom line.

So why not break the cycle? Mastodon offers ad-free, algorithm-free servers run by people who actually share your values. Whether you’re into LGBTQ+ spaces, anarchist networks, hip-hop, or art, there’s a server for you. Personally, I use Kolektiva.social—it’s moderated by comrades, so there’s no tolerance for Nazi garbage.

If you’re not sure where to start, I made a quick and dirty guide to get you started on Mastodon! I show you how to set up an account, follow people, and even migrate accounts. Check it out here: [insert link to video]. As always, I’m repping https://kolektiva.social, but you can explore other servers here: https://joinmastodon.org/communities.

Give it a shot before sinking your time and data into another capitalist project!
